Surreal but Nice

Its been a busy week. Theres been exciting suprises. Hectic days at uni. Days in which i tried to recover from a cold, do uni assignments and pack my house all in one. Theres been quality convos with good friends and random trips to the beach. Theres been huge changes. And theres been both the good and the bad.
Its been surreal, but nice.

Wednesday - moving house day.
Yup, no matter how many times I told myself that its just a house, it doesnt really matter, when wednesday morning came, it was still an emotional business.
So after waking way too early and realising that I was doing nothing but getting in the way of the removal dudes doing their thang, I retreated to uni (hm i never thought i would say those words) whre I killed about 3hrs I had til class by sitting in a cafe, enjoying coffee and banana bread while taking in God's word. This was such a blessing. What a way to start the day and help get my perspective back on track! Especially when I was reading the words of Jesus from Matthew 19 where he says we must be willing to give up everything to come follow Him. Yup, a house is just a house, and i'm happy to say this was a well received reminder. It may be the end of an era, but thats ok! At the risk of sounding too much like HSC english, change is inevitable. Personally I am extremely grateful that although this may be the case, the Lord is the same yesterday, today, and forever!
Meanwhile the move went well and I am liking my new room and the excitement of starting afresh! My family are great and did well at surviving this stressful time! And its awesome having my brother home for the week!

In other news, yesterday in Film I watched a black and white Italian film by Antonioni. And it was really good! I love this guys work! (anyone heard of him?!) He uses the technique of the ellipses, and thus as a spectator you are introduced to these characters and places without little, well, introduction! The duration of the film feels like a viewing of people's lives and events that occur within them - like spying on a snapshot of someones life without seeing anything else before or after that moment. I suspect some would be frustrated with this film, as there is no real closure in the traditional film sense. But i liked it. Perhaps that was the romantic in me though, as we see a couple fall in love, see the time between each moment they spend together as been almost silent and still with the sense of waiting for the moment they will again be together.
One of my favourite scenes involved the two of them walking down the street, about to cross the road. He says: When we get there I will kiss you. So we proceed to watch them crossing the road. But it must have been the longest crossing of a road i have ever seen! They even stopped in the middle, at which point She said: We are half way.
Ok, so this may mean absolutely nothing to you without having seen the film. But it made me laugh. It so encapsulates that combination of waiting and excitment that can exist. The walk across a street feels like a lifetime til you will be with that person again, yet all at once it flees by far too quickly.

The film was more than a story of two lovers though. There were many questions. The female protagonist continues to seek for happiness - having left her husband at the begining of the film as she has fallen out of love with him. She is certainly happy at very few moments in this film however and its so clear how easy it is to fall into the trap of finding meaning and joy in the wrong places. Perhaps these thoughts sprung to my mind in viewing the film as I have just begun to read Desiring God, in which it is made so clear that our joy is made complete in Jesus. This movie seems to encompass a sense of hopelessness in a lost world. This woman is constantly longing for something she cannot find and responding to questions with the words 'i dont know'. While she enjoys precious and happy moments with her love, she is lost. Well, as this Easter weekend and I hope and pray you are all remembering its true meaning, let me remind you of this- hope can be found, its found in Jesus, and this is an amazing thing!

In the meantime, I am giving my first ever talk at TC in a weeks time. If you are the praying kind, I would appreciate some prayer for this, as I prepare, write and deliver a message of hope and assurance of eternal life to these kids.

In Him,
Chelsea

Unfortunately most of the moviesa I see are supplied by Greater Union ('nuff said!) Maybe one day the chains will be broken and I will be released from my bondage to formulaic movies for the masses and brought into the enchanted world of "movie art'...

(Hope the new house is rockin'!)

Cheers,
Josh
