Band Nites, Trivia Nites, and the Church
Friday night we had a concert for the youth of CCSI. The aim was to promote The Search - a mission we have for the kids in the area, usually in the upcoming holidays. Well, the mission has been postponed. But the concert went ahead. And it was a good night!
Three bands and one lovely acoustic set by one very talented young lady.
I guess the value of these nights can always be questioned - to what extent do these events glorify God, even if the bands claim to be Christian?! Well, I'm not sure where I stand with that. But the music was good. The kids seemed to enjoy it all. And I was 'official photographer' and thus had a lot of fun there too...so heres a few pics that resulted... 'The View'
After a late nite friday and still nursing a cold, the 7am start on saturday morning was rough, but ultimately worth it!8am and car was packed full with 5 of us ready for a long yet enjoyable day! Destination: Merroo 645 House Party!!
Ok, so we got a little lost along the way, but the 80s music kept us going and we made it in time for most of the first talk for the day! I was extra excited as it was my first 645 house party! The possibilities were endless!
We had talks from God's word - on 'The Church' - and spent time in prayer and singing to our almighty, all loving, all powerful God. And lets not forget the wonderful 80s Trivia Nite - yup, complete with the music, the oh so attractive clothes, Top Gun, Back to the Future, Hoola Hoops, and a walk-off, it was a night to remember!
A few thoughts from the weekend worth sharing:
- Church, as the gathering of God's people to hear his word, is not necessarily about worship, as worship is something that should be done with all your life, in every part at all times, in your heart and soul, in all you do. Just think about whether that is really the attititude you take in your day to day life!?!
- Church in this life is an earthly expression of the Heavenly church, the kingdom waiting for us in Heaven, offered to us only through Jesus. Do you go to church with this attitude? This should change the attitude you take toward it in every sense - from arriving on time, to turning up and encouraging others by being there. Its an expression of the heavenly church, if this is your belief then what could possibly be more important than this?! There is nothing that could really be more important than contributing to and experiencing church!
- As brothers and sisters meeting together, whether socially or in a more formal context, the reason we are together is not because we get along, not because these people are my friends, is not because we are Christians - but its because of one reason alone - Jesus. HE is what unites us. This thought was further emphasised as I looked around at the people sitting in the chairs around me in session and couldnt help noticing just how different each person was. Its just awesome how we are united through Christ!
Anyway, those are just a few thoughts from the weekend...a lot more can be and needs to be said about the church, but we;ll save that for a later day. Feel free to share your thoughts though!
But for now, its back to the stack of library books, uni work....and boxes to pack - I move on wednesday, and lets just say things are a little hectic right now! A shame really, cos being sick all i really feel like doing right now is curling up on the sofa with my tea and a good movie......
I'm sure i'll find time for that somewhere...
