On My Journey Home
Every traveller needs to be well equipped for both their journey, both the rain and the sunshine...Here are a few things that, when contemplated and addressed head on, will help me (and hopefully you) on the journey home...
"Have you realised that most of your unhappiness is due to the fact that you are listening to yourself instead of talking to yourself?"
Think about it - Martin Lloyd-Jones has a brilliant point here!
In the book of Numbers we see God's people on a pilgrimage to the promised land. In the book of Hebrews the Christian life is presented as a pilgrimage to a heavenly land of promise.
What Israel fails to do that Hebrews stresses we cannot is remain committed. They cease "to be pilgrims on their way to rest and become aimless wanderers in the wilderness."
If we arent careful we could stray from the track and become aimless wanderers too.
As a traveller on my journey home I read this and am reminded to keep an eye on those things that may distract me from the pilgrimage; intriguing wildlife that may just be a little too far from the track. Its one thing to emjoy the journey - and we should - but a very different thing to get lost in it so much we forget where we were headed to start with.....After all, wandering aimlessly never ends up well...
